We have an opportunity to serve as mentors to students at Dixon Middle School preparing for the Science Olympiad.
Here are some of the details.
"1. My students need a mentor who can help them build a blade assembly for a "windmill" competition. They build blades that attach to a CD and then to a stand which measures how much electricity is created when placed in front of a fan. They need help understanding and building an efficient blade, as well as understanding some basics about alternative energy sources.
2. My students are also competing in a tower building contest. They use balsa wood and build a tabletop tower that weights as little as possible, but holds 15 kg. They need help understanding basic engineering design concepts and building different towers to test and compare.
We meet fromeach Tuesday and . Our competition is in April and we hope to have these built by mid March so we can test and rebuild in plenty of time. If you have any students that might be interested in volunteering and have the time to help, please have them contact me at school. We are starting these projects next Tuesday."
