Announcements for November 18th

NRCS Surveying Project (Service Points)
The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) will be providing an opportunity to brush up on your surveying skills while gaining service points for seminar. NRCS will be surveying farmland in here in Utah County. They will provide training for everyone who volunteers. The group will survey once a week for 4 weeks, with a time commitment varying from 2-5 hours (including travel time). The days could be either a Wednesday or Saturday depending on people’s schedules. Please sign up in the CE office and distinguish whether Wednesday or Saturday is preferable.

Pleasant Grove Park (Service Points)
BYU is helping Pleasant Grove with numerous service projects at Kiwanis Park in the coming years. This semester we will be repairing a fence and cutting down trees along nearby trails at the park. It will take two trips to finish this task. Our second trip will be on Saturday, November 20th. Meet behind the structures lab at 8:30 am. Please sign up in the CE office and note if you would be available to drive to Pleasant Grove.

BYU vs. U of U Food Drive (Service Points)
Are you putting off your service points? Earn up to 2 service points by donating canned food for the BYU vs. U of U food drive. 10 regular-sized cans are good for 1 service point (please no tomato paste).

New CE En T-Shirts
Need a great Christmas present for someone? The Civil Engineering t-shirt is this year’s Tickle-Me-Elmo – everyone wants one. They will be available this Tuesday for $10.

Closing Social
The closing social will be held the last day of class; December 9th at 7:00pm. There will be J-Dawgs and fun activities to enjoy yourself before finals. ASCE members who reserve a spot before the activity will pay only $1. Everyone else will pay $3, including ASCE members who pay at the activity.

ASCE Membership
If you are not a member, need to renew your membership, or don’t know what ASCE is, talk to the secretaries in the CE office or sign up online at http://www.et.byu.edu/groups/byuasce/. Rates will be as follows: $7/year for 1st time seminar students and $7/semester or $10/year for returning students.

BYU Graduate Masters Program
If you are interested in applying to the CEEn Graduate Mastersprogram, please see Janice in the CE office. The application deadlineto start Spring/Summer/Fall is February 15 and the deadline to startwinter is August 15. Don't forget you will need to take the GRE atleast a minimum of one month before the application deadline so thatthe department can receive the exam results on time.
