September 30th Announcements

Service Opportunities
Remember that the semester goes by fast and it’s best to get your service hours done early in the semester. If you have any ideas of possible service activities or would like to take charge of a particular service activity, please email the officers at

FE Review

* Wednesday, October 6th, 5:00 pm. Dr. Christiansen – CE En 204

* All reviews will be held in room 406 CB

Homecoming Float (Service Points)
We have secured a trailer and now we can start building the float. Now we need help gathering materials. The float commitee is looking for the following:

  • Wood
  • Cinder Blocks
  • Cardboard
  • Paint
  • Potted Plants (real or fake, also Christmas trees work as well)

If the materials are reusable (i.e. cinder blocks, Christmas trees, etc.) and you mark them with your name then they will be returned to you.

Homecoming BBQ (Activity Point)
ASCE will be holding a BBQ for Homecoming on Saturday, October 9th at 1:00 pm. This will be held in the Step-Down Lounge. There will be face-painting, a football toss, and other pregame festivities.

Steel Bridge Meeting (Rocky Mountain Conference)
The Steel Bridge team will be meeting at 6:00 pm, Thursday, September 30th (today) in room 406 CB. Come if you are interested in participating.

Students vs. Faculty Softball Game
The students will be challenging the faculty and alumni at a game of softball on Saturday, October 16th. The game will be held at 9:00 am. Location: TBA

CUB Luncheon – “Life Long Learning”
This is a 2 day event from October 7th - 8th at the downtown Marriott. There will be lecturers all day, but the luncheons are from 11:45 pm – 1:30 pm. The deadline to register is today.
Seniors and juniors are encouraged to attend. As an incentive to attend, there is a student discount price of $20 for both meals. You may sign up in the CE En office. In addition to the $20 fee you will need to submit an electronic copy of your resume.

Civil Engineering Golf Tournament
There will be a 4 man scramble golf tournament starting “at the break of dawn” on Saturday, October 9th at the Sleepy Ridge Golf Course. You need to have at least one CE student on a team. Prizes will be given for the top team, longest drive, and closest to the hole. A Magleby’s lunch will be provided as well as a sleeve of golf balls. To sign up a team, or to join a team, you need to email Rodney Mayo at and pay $35 at the tournament.

ASCE Membership
If you are not a member, need to renew your membership, or don’t know what ASCE is, talk to the secretaries in the CE office or sign up online at Rates will be as follows: $5/year for 1st time seminar students and $7/semester or $10/year for returning students.
